Not so much a Therapy but an interesting topic
Good old Wikipaedia
| Quote: | In astrology, the air signs consist of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.
According to astrological theory, air signs are the talkers and communicators of the zodiac. Typically they are supposed to be intellectual, analytical, articulate, and versatile – able to discuss just about any topic. Air signs are also seen as the masters of social graces because they enjoy socialising and are very good at "small talk." They are often seen as so objective that they are unable to be practical and realistic. At worst, air signs are supposed to be so changeable they will not stay anywhere for any length of time, and so restless they have trouble with serious concentration on any single job they might be required to carry out. Air signs' role is seen as providing the ideas that make the future different from the past, whereas fire signs carry out the actions necessary for this.
In human relationships, air signs are said to be gregarious and extroverted, often attracting friends very willingly and easily with their charm and ability to communicate. However, air signs are believed to be lacking in passion and unable to form strong, lasting relationships; astrologers believe few air sign people are able to have a single marriage, for they are said to be as apt to try out new people as new ideas. Air signs are also thought to be extremely lacking in emotional depth because they tend to intellectualise their feelings and generally want to avoid difficult obstacles that might be needed to hold a partnership together. Air signs are seen as complementary to fire signs because they provide the ideas that allow the fire signs to carry out their action. However, it is often thought that fire signs are too flagrant and impatient for the air signs to tolerate permanently.
Air signs are supposed to more or less understand earth signs because they share a basically rational nature. However, whilst air signs are supposed to admire earth signs' will to achieve, they supposedly find them too timid, pessimistic, undemonstrative, and cautious, and the earth signs, though attracted by the air signs' unique thoughts, find them overwhelmingly unrealistic and flippant. Water signs are believed to be much too passionate and emotionally deep for air signs' flighty, flirtatious nature; indeed, astrology believes air signs hate water signs as too subjective, secretive, and illogical. For their part water signs supposedly deride air signs as emotionally shallow, excessively concerned with worldly pleasure, and uncaring towards others. However, air signs will find themselves most compatible with fire signs, who share the similar traits of being positive, extroverted, outgoing, and fun-loving. Fire signs may not be as intelligent or rational as air signs, as air signs may not be as passionate or controlling as fire signs, but they can generally adapt to each other's ways, and find they have a lot of different traits to offer in fufilling one another. |
However although I really can see how this reflects in people's personalalities - I certainly don't ever see it as fixed as this seems to make it. For one, (if you believe in it at al) we are al a mixture of these things. Our sun sign is only one aspect, moon and rising signs are also very important and other planets too have an influence)
and two - how can any of it be at all true really - astrology doesn't make sense, there is no scientific or rational explanation so it's obviously a load of tosh.
I actually fall somewhere between the two stools - so much of what it says (- specially if you have a full chart done, but even the sun signs seem to work) resonates with what life is like. <y ex and I are both aquarius, quite different but each showing aquarian stuff. Matt is gemini and I didn't think he was at all close to his description but he becomes more and more that way as he gets older and Sarah is such a typical virgo (with traits so unlike either her dad or I). I would never consult it or make any decision based on it but I do find it a fascinating subject. Actually think I'll start a new thread about astrology.

Here are links for the characters of gemini and Taurus - far too long for me to copy and paste the whole thing. Linda Goodman who wrote these is a well known astrologist who has written lots of books and what I have read of hers seems to be pretty accurate to me.
As I mentioned before ithe moon and rising signs are very important too and if you find areas that you are totally oposite to how you are described here it is often because one of these is in an opposing sign giving the opposite characteristic. Which is why we are all complex human beings who are mostly not totally predictable.
Here is a very brief synopsis - the other makes interesting reading though
Gemini is the third sign of the Zodiac and associated with youth and versatility. Individuals born under this sign are thought to have a sociable, fun-loving, versatile, cunning, lively, communicative, liberal, intelligent, mentally active and friendly character but one which is also prone to moodiness, nervousness, inconsistency, superficiality, restlessness, immaturity and laziness.
Taurus is the second sign of the Zodiac and associated with material pleasure. Individuals born under this sign are thought to have a calm, patient, reliable, loyal, affectionate, sensuous, ambitious, and determined character, but one which is also prone to hedonism, laziness, inflexibility, jealousy, and antipathy |

Not sure about astrology at all. I'm taurus., so looking at what's been said about "me". I'm ambitious-but can be lazy. Haven't looked into the summaries in much detail, but wonder if they're worded-like the previous example, to cover opposing traits, so we then think "just like me"! If we're not one then we'll be the other...
However, there are stranger things under the sun, but personally I prefer to dwell on our uniqueness as individuals rather than groupings decided on nothing more than the time we were born. As Brian has said about me-there's no one else quite like me (I think it might be a compliment ) |

I could say that very few taureans believe in Astrology you got your feet more firmly fixed to the ground, so I can't say I'm surprised.
BUT I know - you're right - it doesn't make any sense. And as I said, if you do believe in it, going jsut by the sun sign doesn't tell you enough anyway. I just find it fun - and even if it is just another way of tapping into what our subconscious really wants it can have some value in that way - so long as it isn't taken too seriously. and I don't - but I can't write it off totally either. |

I'm going to enjoy this thread! Agree with you on both counts Hec-I am a realist, and interpret most information with caution, until I have managed to prove for and by myself of it's worth-so you're spot on there. And yes, it is recognised as a taurean trait.
But, to take the two almost diametrically opposed examples of ambitious/lazy. If I said to you-"You're ambitious, but can be lazy", you would possibly agree. We know that you're ambitious for your new business-and let's be honest, all of us can be lazy at times. So- a generalised trait that can probably be applied to everyone-as indeed can a lot of these traits.
As an experiment, I've looked up my horoscope for today-and it's hilarious.
"TAURUS - April 21st - May 21st
You want to do something different today but you haven't the faintest idea what! You aren't as focused as usual and you aren't paying attention either. Your penchant for making money seems to be missing and the chance to make some cash could slip through your fingers! Nothing holds your interest and if you're working, you're too easily distracted by phone calls, emails and the like."
Well, lets' see-it's 8.53 and so far I have put out one load of washing, and put on another. I've been ironing-3 king size duvets , pillows and sheets. Cleaned our ensuite. Watered the garden, and trimmed back a couple of very large bushes.
Today I have earmarked for routine tasks and paperwork, and will be doing so with focus. Bizarrely I can have this ratified!!! Come in Katie-while emailing katie last night, I mentioned that I was planning doing this, as it's long overdue(but did add that it was weather dependent!)
"My penchant for making money?"... Like, pardon...
I'm very rarely distracted from what I want/have /need to do, and having started today in a focused frame of mind, I'll be surprised if I don't maintain it.
Now, if I'd copied the above horoscope and said it was for aquarius, you (I mean a general "you"), might just believe that it was relevant to your day? |

Horoscopes - no - I have no time for them. I think I said above - as a means of teling you future I have found no evidence at all. And again as above - even if it did it could not do it based just on you sun sign. Character traits - well you do seem to be very 'Taurean' with your 'home caring' as an Aquarian or even just as me - you wouldn't catch me ironing quilt covers :zn2.
Out of interest - do you know (or can you find out) what time you were born? I'd love to do you a quick, full analysis to see what you think :D |

Some guy on Facebook just added me as a friend, I didn't know him but had a look at his profile and it looks like another of my friends is friends with him but he's an astrolger/medium/psychic...
I've had a look at his website and it looks quite good, he does video horoscopes and cards, quite funny too!
This is the link - http://www.davidcammegh.com
Funnily enough he lives near Ashford, so very local to me.
