I've just had a first contact email from a distant relative who lives not far from me. She's based in Cornwall, so we hope to meet at some stage in the future. I'm so enjoying this hobby-initially I thought it would be primarily about "dead" ancestors, but am getting to learn about quite a few living family members too.
This latest one is not Scottish, but went to uni in Edinburgh-my home town, which is a lovely coincidence. Maybe she'll have a boxer too....

Since I posted, she has emailed me a photo of a family wedding, and I think there is a resemblance, but it may be wishful thinking on my part. I'm still trying to figure out who everyone in the photograph is! She is my g.g. grandfather's brothers' grandaughter, so we'll have a few genes in common.

I know the feeling of excitement, we made contact with one of my OH`s relatives last year. She is 87 and we keep in contact by email as well as phone. She did not start using the computer until she was over 70.

I think there is a lot to be said for the silver surfers out there doing their research.

I "met" whilst researching, and correspond with, a cousin that my Dad never knew he had. She is about the same age as my Dad and is on the computer all the time. My Dad has never had a VCR and doesn't know what a DVD is, he hates my mobile phone and can't fathom out why I (a woman?!?) would need sat nav? Guess he was never meant to use anything more complex that a lightswitch!! :D (Sorry Dad :( )
