Less annoying colleague Y suggested that I could use Visual Guided Meditation to help my IBS... she said it would be ideal to do on my long bus journey to work.

I have looked it up online, but I don't know what the best thing to get is, I've looked on eBay and there's loads of CD's.

Any suggestions would be most grateful?!

You need one where the voice isn't annoying, and that you feel comfortable with.....can you look on Amazon and hear a snippet?

Anything that helps you too, "switch off" and relax would be good....you'd need to feel comfortable closing your eyes, and getting lost in it...I am not sure you would do that on the bus.  I would be a good thing for you to do in the evening when you get in...or before going to bed.

Oh I think I could do it on the bus, I often drift off while I'm listening to music... especially on the way home!  Everyone is in a world of their own on the bus anyway as it takes nearly an hour...

Will check out Amazon later!

Great, then it will be a good way for you to wind down and relax...and ultimately refresh yourself for the evening.

Hi Jo.  Can't comment about the type of meditation that has been recommended to you.  However, I have been doing meditation for a few months now and it's amazing.  I have missed a few sessions recently and certainly notice a difference in my stress levels.  The stuff I've learnt is actually Buddhist meditation although I have no interest in Buddhism at all.  There was a programme on the other night about meditation and this kind of breathing and mindfullness meditation was the one out of all of them that the scientish felt could prove beneficial.

So have a look at the following website:  www.wildmind.org

There are real audio files for free which give tips and then you can purchase the full mp3's from the site.  Give it a go.  I also did a one day meditation course in London and it was fantastic.

Good luck hun and feel free to pm me if you need any info/advice.

I've been recording the Alternative Therapies series and watched the Meditation one last night. I think meditation can be very good for anyone and currently I do it as part of my Yoga.

Going to look into buying a CD also for home and get into the practise in the evenings.

I watched half of the meditation programme on iPlayer as the night it was on it clashed with something else, then my PC crashed so need to watch the other half at the weekend.
