'Real' Age

http://www.realage.com/homepage.aspx

This is a very interesting site - well I think so.

You can complete a very comprehensive questionnaire and it will tell you your 'real' age in terms of health.

There is a separate questionnaire just about diet and I think others - but I've spent too much time there today already.

I am about 6.5 years 'younger' than my physical age and could improve that even more with strengtt and toning exercises (to add to my fitness work) and slight dietry modifications.

It is all free and they don't sell vitamins/supplements etc so it isn't about a hard sell on products.

Covers some genetic/family type stuff as this has a bearing (Mum and Dad both being alive and 86 & 91 respectively helps)

My 'real' age is 46.2 which sounds a lot better than 53. From diet alone my age is 51.4 and I could get it down another year by modifying slightly (mainly reducing cheese, wine, eggs and increasing fruit veg and taking vit E, C and folic acid)  I already take loads of supplements so a few more wont hurt.

I am waiting of mine to be sent to me, however.... I think when i was looking at the op i was already plus 3 year slol!!!
patweb

I'm + 1.7. It was the exercise bit that brought me down. Before I did that I was minus.
dingsy

If it's accurate it should make me substantially older-so let's see! Have completed it, so will let you know!
Nannyp

It's alright for you lot on Broadband...I am still ploughing through mine!
MissMuppet

A few things bought me down, I was doing quite well... I haven't got my report yet but I'm looking at +5 years or something!
MissMuppet

Oh dear... I'm 39!!!!!

That may have something to do with no exercise and smoking for 8 years!!! Oops!

Chrono Age 52.7   Real Age 48.2

Flossing habits
Low unsaturated fat
Lack of flexibility exercises
Workout schedule
Potassium levels
Low grain intake
Low vegetable intake
Folic acid intake
Daily vitamin
High BMI
Driving speeds
Vehicle size
High red meat intake
Calcium intake
Vitamin E intake
Vitamin C intake
Social network and stress
Strength training level

These are apparentlythe things keeping me older! The one's I have highlightedf, I disagree with....we have a small car, we exceed the speed limit by upto 9k.....how dangerous or harmful can that be.

Low veg intake???? I wasn't offered more than at least 2 per day....was I?

I'm very sceptical too. I was expecting to receive a high age, due to my health issues. But I'm apparently 47, which I simply can't believe.

I also did one a few days ago which estimated my life expectancy at 96. Think these things are fun, but have to be taken with a huge pinch of salt!
Nannyp

I'd stick with the 47 one then Elaine
MissMuppet

One of the things for mine that kept me old was - owning a dog!!  But in the next bit they were saying that it keeps you young... I was a bit confused, especially as I put that I owned a cat!

I thought you could put in how ever much veg you wanted.

With regards the small car and speed I think it is more that - in America - you are more likely to die in an accident if you have a smaller car (or drive over the speed limit) so that brings the average age of death down - but that's crackers cos you either die early from it or you don't it doesn't bring your death forward by a specific amount.

Flossing - well gum disease is often linked to heart disease so that's why that one is in.  (Or rather the germs that cause some heart disease are present in the mouth and more so in people who don't floss).

The network one - I counted online communities as social groups so I scored ok on that one.

Well I'm not dissing it      I like the idea of being so much younger than I am.

It clearly doesn't take all the variables into account and some things - like the car issue - are very American but I think it is generally pretty good at hilighting what you are doing well at or otherwise.

You Elaine - I guess - actually live a healthy life and make healthy choices - it doesn't compute for shitty bad luck!
dragonfly

i was plus 6 years!!!

blueflower

Not sure I dare do this - exercise is a real big problem, the spirits willing but the flesh (or bones) is weak.  Bet I am at least = 5years.
blueflower

Well I've done it, not had results yet but the last time it told me I was 61!  thats plus 6 years.
blueflower

62.6. Need to lose weight, excercise and slow down when driving.  The last one may prolong my life but not sure why driving a bit faster makes you older than your years.

It doesn't BUT on average - if you drive too fast you are more likely to die early so that brings the average down.

Funny that --going too fast added years to me and Kathy  as well.  And the say the youngsters don't know how to be sensible on the road

Thing is it's not just speed - it's just that is the most easily quantifiable.

I was driving fast yesterday on the M1 from Sheffield to Birmingham BUT there was a big gap _ and there always is between me and the car in front, luckily.

A few cars further forward an exhaust dropped off a car - cue much shunting and scraping.  I was far enough behind to stop and also aware enough to realise the car behind me wasn't and was able to get down the outside of the car in front without touching him which enabled the car behind me - who would have hit me - to stop.  If I hadn't got out the way he would not only have hit me but shunted me into the one in front I think.  The one behind him did just touch him but no real damage done.

All good fun - and the driver behind me had the 'grace' to say "I'll never criticise women drivers again   (Actually I was shaking like a leaf and stayed below 70 for the rest of the journey

There were a few bent bumpers and crumpled bits but I don't think anyone was seriously hurt.  Got away from it as soon as I could.
blueflower

Good move, I think that being aware of what is going on around you is what keeps you reasonably safe on the roads. Hope you feel Ok today.

I'm still sulking about my real age.     OK my body may be 62.6 but I have a mind that refuses to grow up.
