Bach Flower RemediesThe life and work of Dr Edward Bach has been written about extensively in several books. However, the following brief account may be of help to visitors to this site who are not well acquainted with his story.
Find out more about the life of Edward Bach in the Background section.
Edward Bach was born at Moseley, near Birmingham, in 1886 and trained as a doctor in London. For several years he worked investigating the role of bacteriology in chronic disease. His researches led him to recognise that
there were clear personality types that related to the various patterns of ill health, irrespective of the physical symptoms being presented by the patient. Working with vaccine therapy and later with homoeopathic principles, he moved towards the discovery of the flower remedies These he felt could help to harmonise the emotional imbalances that he came to see as the real causes of physical illness.
You can read several of Dr Bach's books directly in our online Library.
By 1930 he was prepared to give up his successful medical practice in order to search for the plants and trees that came to be known as The Twelve Healers & Other Remedies. These are the flowers described on the Plants/Essences pages, frequently using the actual text that Bach wrote to describe these thirty-eight healing remedies.
You can hear how the remedies are used in the Audio-Visual section.
Each flower was found to embody the positive and harmonising force for a negative emotional state, be it fear, resentment or despair. In order to transfer this healing force to a patient Bach prepared essences from the flowers. This essence, when diluted, could then be taken as a medicine. He found that as the negative moods changed so the person would return towards health.
If you want to find a practitioner to help you use the Bach remedies, use our locator in the Contacts section.
The healing properties of the remedies were explained by Bach in terms of a philosophy of life that saw a person as much more than the outward physical body that is treated in conventional medicine. Illness, he suggested, was a message from our inner being calling for a change in our way of living and our mental outlook. The primary purpose of the flower remedies is to help us to change and bring us back to a genuinely happy experience of life.
These remedies have been in use throughout the world in the years since Bach's death in 1936.

Bach flower remedies are excellent. I've been using Rescue Remedy for a few years, but got into making up my own at home in the last year.
They are very easy to use, and have pretty quick effects. I knew from using rescue remedy( a pre-made blend for helping calm nerves in stressful times) that they work well, and was intrigued to find out more.
They do cost a bit, about £200 for a full boxed set, but last for a long time, as it's only drops needed for each remedy.
My acupuncture teacher does Bach flower remedies, and he uses a dowsing pendant to find out which ones are required. It was fascinating to watch. He did it for my daughter, who had some health issues at the time, and the remedies worked really well.
I'm reading up on them just now, and looking into going on a course to become certificated and able to use them properly. I'll let you know how i get on

It's great to hear tales of remedies working. Especially when they are so gentle in themselves with no side effects like many modern drugs. Modern medicine is fantastic and I'm glad we have what we have but how good it feels to see traditional methods working.

Have found a place in scotland which does courses, so will find out more from them. looks a bit pricy though :!: about £900 for the whole course. Might need to save the pennies up!

I've looked at Bach Flower Remedies in the past and been tempted to try them, but something has held me back ( :laughing8: ) from buying them. Maybe if I knew more about them Chris it would help.

I started taking flower essences two or three weeks ago. They're not Bach remedies though. I read about them in a book about highly sensitive people, and these ones were recommended. So I'm taking Chamomille (sp?) and Pink Yarrow. I'm also hoping to order Sweet Chestnut which is a Bach one.
