Shops shops shopsI see Jamie Oliver has launched a new food store.
It's made me think.
Does the UK need another food shop?
Another clothes shop?
Another book shop?
Another shop?

Why of course, haven't you noticed all our shops are closing... where will we buy our stuff if they all shut?!!

To be honest, I think we do. Jo is only speaking semi-tongue in cheek I think. The closures of late are leaving gaping holes in the High Streets of most towns. I'm guilty at doing a lot of my shopping online so no doubt I contribute to this trend. It's good to hear of someone opening rather than closing!

My question was prompted by my changing views I think. Living here, I rarely shop, and notice that there doesn't seem to be the same "drive" to shop.
I just feel, when people are so short of money, and with the credit crunch really getting hold, that it must be hard for some, to feel the "drive" to shop, and try out new shops.

I'm not a particularly keen shopper either, which is why I do most of it online. But, the situation will only worsten if people curtail spending completely.
We're having some work done on the house-work which Brian is more than capable of doing-but we've decided to give the work to local tradespeople, as they are really hard hit at the moment.
I agree that spending habits can and do change, and I suspect that in your aim to be as self-sufficient as possible, then you're even more aware of how little we actually need (as opposed to "want"), to buy. Even since Iian moved out last summer, I've noticed quite a reduction, not only in the amount, but in the range of foodstuffs I buy.
