Signing out for a few weeksOr am I? I invested in a mobile broadband conection, so may look in occasionally while we're on holiday! On Friday, after the last of this week's infusions, we're heading off to Cornwall for 2 weeks. We're both desperately in need of a break-we haven't had much leisure time since March, so this will be really welcome.Poor Brian has additional 15 hours a week added to his already hectic schedule with driving me to and from Plymouth every day.
We're self catering in Port Gaverne, a mile from Port Isaac. It's a pretty dramatic part of the world-rocky coastlines, so plenty of opportunity for poking around in rockpools, etc! We love the dramatic sea scenery-we're not so keen on the "resorts", like Padstow and St Ives, which tend to have the tidy beaches, much preferring the wilder coast.
I don't think we'll be doing too much:day long hikes are probably not too wise, although I hope we manage a few. I think 4 or 5 miles are still perfectly manageable though, so we might aim to spend the morning walking, the afternoon relaxing (in the garden with the "free range tortoises"!)
Iain and Louise will be joining us for a few days, which is great. He's another who hasn't had a holiday so far this year, as he's been so busy at work. He has stacks of leave still to take (over 20 days), and as he's testing new stystems over the next 2 weekends, he'll gain another 8 days! He's certainly proving the saying "like father, like son"-they both have the same very conscientious attitude to work, and my goodness, it's paying dividends. I don't know the full details as yet, but he popped in last night to borrow some tools, and told us that he'd met his former boss for lunch and he told him that he's creating a new post which he hopes will tempt Iain back to them! This is in addition to being approached last week by 2 seperate agencies about vacancies for which they think he would be suitable to apply. One of them pays over 50k, so fingers crossed! It'll be great to have a few days with them-we'd hoped Jenny and Sam could come, but they have the opposite problem-ie, they've already used so much leave when they bought the flat, they need to save what little they have left for the wedding!

Have a lovely time, that is a glorious piece of coastline, I envy you.
Hope you both get the rest you need.

Thanks Kathy. I have appointments back at Plymouth on both weeks, so we're not escaping completely-in fact it was one of the reasons we chose Port Isaac. the other being that it has many fond memories for us-we regularly holidayed there when we lived in Cardiff. Lots of happy memories of building wondrous structures on Trebarwith Strand-a fantastically evocative place, which was always so quiet in comparison to the popular beaches.
