Suggestions for the siteThought I'd start this thread, as I've read two suggestions this morning, so shall we go for a list-sorry Hec!
1 Photo gallery, I think was suggested a little while ago, by Dawn
2Book link to amazon.
Think there have been another couple of suggestion too, but they've escaped me for the moment...

Hi Hec
I have mentioned on another thread, what about a TV room? DTDC started a thread and we could maybe have a couple of rooms for that.
3. TV Room
4. Music Room
5. Library
6. Toilet (for jokes!?!?!)
What does everyone think?

Elaine and Angel, good suggestions my only reservation (may not be the right word) is that this I believe was set up as a help forum and if all suggestions are implemented it becomes more of a general forum. The other point is of course how much extra work is put on Hec to maintain it.
Trying to be constructive, not destructive.

I agree Dave. However, it's my perception that anything that lifts the spirits of others has a positive reaction. I think if the site isn't vital and new and interesting, people will quickly get bored or it could be a site that is a bit depressing. If it is, then surely all of Hec's work to date will be wasted and lost - because who will want to visit a site that is flat? At the moment we have 51(?) members. To encourage others to come across to us from other comparable sites will need work. It also needs the impetus that we as members can give it too.
What do others think? I know Hec isn't working on this until Wednesday, but looking forward to her take on it too.

I'm a cautious person by nature, so not sure that rapid expansion would necessarily be a good thing. I'd rather the site progressed slowly, concentrating on what it will hopefully do well. I'm 100% convinced that more people will register, but think it'll take time.Slowly but surely, rather than being over-ambitious, may make more sense in the early days?
Have slight reservations too, about the site becoming too gimmicky.A good, basic, supportive site will succeed on its' own merits. Agree though, Dawn, that as members we must keep the impetus going-that's absolutley vital. Not sure what the rooms you suggested are for? Sorry I'm being particularly slow this morning!!!

The ideas I was putting forward were really only ideas.
3. Could be a way of chatting with friends on-line about favourite TV prorammes but could also be a message board for when there are programmes on that might be useful to those wishing to make a positive change.
4. I think there have been posts already about uplifting music or lyrics.
5. This could be the link either to books that we don't necessarily want to swap (ie RISI), rather ones that we would recommend or don't mind sharing with our friends on PCPC and could also contain the link for Amazon (in order to generate some funds for the future development of the site).
6. Bit of frivolity really! I've always found that even in the deepest depression, a joke can still make me smile.
Nothing wrong with being cautious Elaine and I agree with your comments. I think I am just anxious that Hec has done a helluva lot of work already and has asked for suggestions.
I am really excited by the workshops too.

these are just my views
3. TV ROOM Could be a way of chatting with friends on-line about favourite TV prorammes but could also be a message board for when there are programmes on that might be useful to those wishing to make a positive change. i think this could work for same reasons as stated above..
4. MUSIC ROOM I think there have been posts already about uplifting music or lyrics. again this could have positive vibes, as long as we dont get into the 'depressing links' etc
5. LIBRARY This could be the link either to books that we don't necessarily want to swap (ie RISI), rather ones that we would recommend or don't mind sharing with our friends on PCPC and could also contain the link for Amazon (in order to generate some funds for the future development of the site). This one i don't really agree with. I dont really think there is call to have a 'library' on here as majority of us are members of RISI and if on the odd occasions we do want to chat about a book that's made a difference to us, I think it could just be mentioned in the Chat section
6. TOILET Bit of frivolity really! I've always found that even in the deepest depression, a joke can still make me smile. again not sure about this one. think that it would be too much like RISI and we didn't really want this to just be a 'copy' version of RISI. if we do happen to have a joke or a funny tale to brighten the day, again we could just mention it in the Chat section
I'm not critising anyone's thoughts at all, so I hope no-one takes offence, i'm just offering my view - whether it's right or wrong - it's just an opinion. But can I just say well done for all the suggestions, i couldn't have come up with them

No offence taken Tina. I think we need to share our ideas and respect each other views. We can't all think the same, can we? Maybe I just get a tad too enthusiastic! LOL

No harm in that Angel.

Think Tina's additional comments have summarised my concerns too.It was the joke/book section that I too thought would be a bit superfluous. Although, any useful books/articles are worth mentioning, book chat in general is probably better served via RiSi. Have slight reservations about the joke section:again taking RiSi as an example, I suspect that on there, somewhere between a third/half of new posts are in the joke sections. To be honest, I rarely check these sections (but then I don't have a very well developed sense of humour! )
However, TV/entertainment/music in general, would be good. Perhaps even classed as a hobby section:might be able to get new ideas that way for leisure time.

I must admit I agree with Tina's comments. I think just having the TV and Music room as a start will be a good idea, we could maybe see how that goes and then add further things later on.

Dawn, we definately need enthusiasmn on here, and what you came up with was brilliant, like i said, i'm open to hear everyone's opinions, none of us are right, we all think differently dont we - thankfully, coz if we didn't think how boring life would be....

Some great suggestions most of which I'm going to keep on the back burner for a while as far as NEW rooms are concerned. How I have worked it on RISI is generally that these areas start within existing rooms and then new rooms are 'built' if particular areas become very popular.
This site isn't competition for RISI it, hopefully, complements it; though I hope we do eventually get new members directly rather than just through 'RISI' or 'YOU'.
Songs that we like, that cheer us up and or have helpful or uplifting lyrics can be posted in the 'Positive Thinking' bit of the lounge. Again, the TV is generally in the lounge and if there is a programme that could be recommended as being relevant to the forum it could be posted in the self help section - as with appropriate books. Soaps etc would be discussed round the kitchen table if members want to chat about them on here. Personally, I would visit RISI to chat about them but am quite happy for those who feel more comfortable chatting about them on here to do so.
Hobbies is one that seems a little more difficult to fit into existing sections but having said that - they are a way of lifting our spirits etc so would suggest that for now.
If we get say half a dozen or so new threads in quick succession for any of these areas I will then consider starting a specific section and 'moving' the activities there.
When I was creating new fora on RISI, a number of people were against it as it made the whole page too long. I think most of the rooms are now being well used so people have obviously got used to it BUT there are many more members and posts on there than on here and I think having too many rooms, particularly is some of them rarely have new posts is a tad confusing for new members.
Oh forgot the photo gallery - and amazon links - well I don't know how to do either of those thing - as this is a free hosted forum I think that is the only direct advertising involved but if not then perhaps sometime in the future will get that sorted.
Photo gallery - again I am not sure about a link but to have a separate area for them AND perhaps a communal registration on Photobucket would be fairly quick and easy. I'll have a look at that now.
