We're house hunting again!

But not for ourselves! Jennifer has decided that now is the time to get her foot on the proapery ladder, and hopes to buy her first flat in the next few months. The lease on her house share is up for renewal in July, so she hopes to have somewhere sorted before then, although will happily sign up for another 6 months if necessary.

She and her partner are meeting with a mortgage advisor soon, but have already been told that securing a mortgage won't be a problem for them. There are a few places we'll be viewing in the next week or so-one directly across the road from Iain's new flat! She's very excited (as are we), so fingers crossed that they'll soon find something they want.

It must be a buyers market at the moment Elaine, I am sure she'll find something really nice.

Not so sure Kathy-I had a quick look last night, and it seems like prices have remained pretty stable in this part of the world-at least at the lower end of the market. It looks as though people are sitting tight and waiting for some signs of recovery rather than panicing and reducing prices. We'll be seeing one that she's keen on (it needs masses of work, which will keep Brian busy!), but other than that, there's not a lot of choice.

She may have to compromise on what she wants/can afford. Ideally she wants 2 beds with a small garden-she might have to settle for 1 bed+garden or 2 beds without garden, but hopefully we'll soon have  a shortlist of possibles.

The flat I was in last year has been reduced by another £10k... although I reckon the owners must be pretty desperate to get rid of it now after a year with no tenants.

Hope Jen finds something nice Elaine... wish I was able to get my foot on the property ladder, maybe in another 4 years time.

Wishing Jennifer and her partner all the very best in finding something wonderful x

Strangely, this level of the market seems to be stable, although more expensive properties have been reduced. I'm sure there wil be  a few to choose from. Really excited for them both. Much though they love sharing with their friends, there's always a houseful, and it was only when they were on holiday a few weeks ago, that they realised how much they valued time alone.

The beauty of Exeter is that it is small and everything is quite central, so even by moving on they'll only be a short journey away from friends...and family! Watch this space.......

Jennifer and I are viewing the number one choice this afternoon, so fingers crossed that it's as nice as it looks. It's part of a Victorian mansion which has been converted to flats-and this one has the added bonus of  a private patio area , and use of a large communal garden-so best of both worlds really.

Sam (her boyfriend), is very laid back about it all, and happy to live wherever she wants, so we're doing the initial groundwork, and then she can view the shortlist with Sam.

Very excited for them both, so hope they soon find their dream home...

Hope the viewing went well x

It did Dawn-it's an absolute beauty. But she sees the downsides to it as well-smaller kitchen that she'd hoped -although 13x6 it was pretty cramped, as one wall was taken up with patio doors out to the garden-lovely, but it meant that the fridge/freezer was along the third wall, and it looked completely odd. It meant that she would have needed a dining table in the lounge-which was possible, as there was a lovely big bay window and a small table would have sat nicely there. Lack of storage was a bit of a worry. But she has quite a few alternatives (about 19 at the last count!), so we shall see. So many lovely features, secluded , as you can see, with heaps of character-

The flat is to the right of the front door, and the patio ran the length of the house-fabulous!

Not been able to log on using the laptop since last week - can't see the image :O(

The great thing is Elaine, she has a lot of options and choice means empowerment.  She'll find the perfect place soon x

It's all change! Last night we viewed a fabulous first floor flat, with garden and garage. Beautifully sized rooms, but heaps of work needing done. Not just new kitchen/bathroom/windows+doors, as we'd hoped, but also damp and probbaly rewiring needed too! She's already contacted a builder/damp proofing expert, so she's not giving up at the first hurdle. It could be  astggeringly beautiful home-it's very open to front, with far reaching voews over Exeter to the hills beyond-and to the back, it's almost like being in the country. All of this, and less than a mile from the city centre! But, at a rough guess, the work needed would be in the region of 30k, so she would have to negotiate a price reduction on the purchase.

We'll see what Thursday brings-another lovely looking flat, right in the town centre!

All change again-and a decision has been made. They've just viewed a lovely 2 bed ground floor flat with garden. It's immaculate. Large lounge bedroom and kitchen, with a very respectable sized 2nd bed. All of the white goods are fitted, so they won't need to buy anything like that. It's very central-just off the High Street, and a 2 minute walk from the bus station. And only a few miles from us! Fingers crossed it goes smoothly for them....

That's brilliant news, and yes, lets hope it goes smoothly.  Sounds lovely.

I had a 2 bed flat with a small garden, it felt more like a house than a flat. I loved it...then I met Mark and sold it when I moved in with him.

After 3 attempts, their offer was finally accepted a short while ago, so all systems go. We're all thrilled and excited-to say nothing of relieved!
Nannyp

Excellent news....I bet you are excited
